Module 1 highlighted a very important principle regarding the ability to add value. HR supports the business to achieve it’s goals and if we are unable to help the business to achieve those goals, we become the “personnel department” as in times past. We can become very people-focused and forget that the reason the business exists, is to make a profit.
Although accessibility to data is sometimes a challenge, I understand that I must make a case for ensuring this information is available to me to better understand the business model and our current situation. This information will then help me to understand how to improve business performance through the use of our human resources, adding value to the bottom-line.
