Two recommendations my organization can implement today to improve the quality of training programs created and offered would be:

I would recommend that my learning and development team be extremely intentional about hosting sessions that are short, interactive and engaging. This intentionality caters to the undeniable fact that a number of us have very short attention spans and our goal is to meet persons where they are if we in fact want to be successful.

Trainings that are long in delivery usually loose persons after about twenty minutes in and therefore learning teams should switch gears at that timeframe by activating a level of engagement in an effort to keep persons focused but also to help with building Generation. People retain information during meaningful engagement and conversations. We remember conversations that strike a nerve (emotions) we remember conversations and activities that remind us of someone, something or someplace (association). Therefore allowing discussion or activities surrounding the top ideas allows the concept to resonate, therefore making learning meaningful while being embedded in our memory boxes.

I absolutely love @Krystle Duncombe recall of “it’s NOT about efforts, it’s about results”. Brutal yet real reminder that it is important to operate with a strategic mindset because you have to know before hand all (or as much as possible) the facets involved in the complete execution of something before getting started otherwise, you can burn out half way through the process and all the planning, efforts and hard work would be in vain if it never comes to light.

@ Summer McCartney, your reminder of “remaining curious” is paramount to our growth and constant evolution as HR professionals and we must remain intentional in that pursuit; knowledge is power!

After completing module 1 on Strategic Human Resources Management I was challenged primarily with implementing the concept of “Begin with the end in mind”. This power principle of always think of the outcomes. This forces one to be strategic during every step of any plan. Begin each day, task, or project with a clear vision of your desired direction and destination. In my attempts to accomplishing this goal, I was challenged to get a hold of my company’s business plan, familiarise myself with both the short and long term goals and KPI’s in an effort to identify where best to apply my effort to ensure my plans synchronise with that of the company’s ultimate goals, to avoid working as a silo.

This concept will better assist me in supporting the business strategy as I will ensure I engage all shareholders (understanding everyone’s contribution, stake and role) while becoming a story teller and walking billboard consistently communicating both the strategy and the wins. An additional nugget that stood out for me that was shared is that while working towards the goals understand and appreciate that building relationships is paramount as “Culture eats strategy for breakfast”.
